Local Celebrity NFL Jeopardy #8

with 5 comments

Usually I just pick teams out of a hat (you didn’t know — sorry). This time I’ve decided to poll the vast Manitoba celebrity community. OK. It’s not that vast. But lucky for us there are only 11 National Football League post season games to cover. Shouldn’t be that hard to find 11 people, should it? We will see, I guess. Please note: On the off-chance these people don’t reply to the pick requests that I probably won’t get around to sending them in the first place, these selections (or responses) may not actually be from them. Only one man can handle the most over-hyped game in the history of over-rated NFL quarterbacks. Nick Hill, the graphics are up and we are rolling!

Dallas Cowboys (11-5) at Minnesota Vikings (12-4)
Sunday, noon on FOX

Previous meeting: In Peter King’s dreams.
Cowboys road record: 5-3
Vikings home record: 8-0
The spread: Cowboys +2.5
The money line: Cowboys +120
The over/under: 45.5 points

Folks, it’s the ‘ol cow poke here at Kern-Hill Furniture Co-op telling you to C’MON DOWN to the Twin Cities for what will be a heck of a ball game. Our sectionals and dining room suites aren’t the only thing we’re blowing out this weekend. We’ll also be selling exaggeration and rhetoric when it comes to discussing the best gun-slinging match-up ever. Nobody can touch our prices the best two quarterbacks in the game and we’ve flipped our lids bending over backwards to make excuses for these sweethearts, SO C’MON DOWN. Wait folks, there’s more: No. 1 son left the embellishment making machine on this week, and we’re gonna pass the mindless analysis on to you. We’ll guarantee to insult your intelligence with our endless slurping. That’s no money down ’till next year and no interest in this game. Wholesale madness ends this Sunday, SO C’MON DOWN to 843 Main Street! Hope to see you soon!

Darren Ford, why don’t you take some ownership and make a pick this weekend?

New York Jets (9-7) at San Diego Chargers (13-3)
Sunday, 3:40 p.m. on CBS

Previous meeting: None
Jets road record: 5-3
Chargers home record: 6-2
The spread: Jets +7.5
The money line: Jets +270
The over/under: 42 points

Everyone thinks I’m going to pick the Jets this weekend. I know what the people are saying, how this is a chance for the Jets to show one of those sunbelt teams that football just doesn’t work down there. Are you listening Roger Goodall? San Diego is not a football market and one day, when all the money is gone, the league will realize that and bring a team back where it belongs. Yes, I’m taking the Jets — but not for that reason. I’m taking them because they have an owner. Woody Johnson. From the Johnson & Johnson estate. What an owner! I love owners. An owner is everything for a professional sports team. I hope to own an owner one day. An owner to call our own. Keep the faith. We deserve a team — whatever that means. Our owner-ship will come in. The moment is near.

What is taking so long?

Hump Day

Large and in charge. Would you call those leg-warmers? I’m not so sure. Pretty thin. Regardless, we have a repeat. Back by popular demand, it’s Katy Perry again. So fun-loving, so silly, isn’t she? One time I was at a bar and I confused the Perry music with Pink. That was embarrassing. Not as embarrassing as it was for the person who corrected me, mind you, but still uncomfortable. Big thanks to Hustler & Lawless for the co-hosting opportunity with the former last night. Good times. It’s the callers that run the machine. I’m like the Don Imus of Winnipeg radio, though — you can’t understand what I’m saying because I haven’t formed the thought in my head yet. It’s just mumbles and idea scraps. Sigh. The search for Jim Toth-quality continues. Now that guy can really get a point across!
