The master of the over-statement has officially ruined the Calgary-Chicago series for the home viewer. And it only took three games, as Pierre McGuire continues to solidify himself as one of the biggest star pumpers in the game, following tonight’s 4-2 win by the Flames.
Not only is Jonathan Toews is controlling this series, and not only is Brent Seabrook anchoring the power play for the Canadian team in the 2010 Olympics, and not only is Dion Phaneuf, the love of his life, a dominating physical presence, but Cory Sarich is the epitome of heart not unlike Bobby Orr in his later years and “this series has the potential to be a classic.”
Yes, a first round series between teams with no history who aren’t in the same division should be a classic. Buckle up, folks!
There’s more. McGuire has taken it upon himself to protect Jerome Iginla from the always dreaded trash talk. Naturally, he fails to point out that Iginla is doing just as much talking as the Blackhawks, but why get into things like the actual events as they unfold right in front of your eyes and ears, right Pierre.
“There’s a lot of talking out here and most of it is directed at Iginla.”
“Jerome is taking a verbal assault out here, the likes of which I’ve never seen a star player take.”
“They got to get Iginla out of here!”
Great exchange from play-by-play man Chris Cuthbert and McGuire in the final minute of the game, when Iginla was receiving his ‘brutal’ tongue lashing. The scrum escalated in front of McGuire (who was between the benches) causing Cuthbert to offer up this predictable softball to his partner:
“You almost got it, too.”
“That’s what I’m down here for.”
If only.

[...] to the rumour that Dion Phaneuf and Pierre McGuire have broken up, nor can it be confirmed that McGuire is late night texting Jerome Iginla…I will never get tired of watching that Bure OT winner in ‘94…Flames fans are [...]
